A simple text editor is all you need to learn HTML.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Learn HTML Using Notepad or TextEdit<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Web pages can be created and modified by using professional HTML editors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, for learning HTML we recommend a simple text editor like Notepad (PC) or TextEdit (Mac).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We believe that using a simple text editor is a good way to learn HTML.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Follow the steps below to create your first web page with Notepad or TextEdit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Step 1: Open Notepad (PC)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Windows 8 or later:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Open the\u00a0Start Screen<\/strong>\u00a0(the window symbol at the bottom left on your screen). Type\u00a0Notepad<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Windows 7 or earlier:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Open\u00a0Start<\/strong>\u00a0>\u00a0Programs ><\/strong>\u00a0Accessories ><\/strong>\u00a0Notepad<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Step 1: Open TextEdit (Mac)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Open\u00a0Finder > Applications > TextEdit<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Also change some preferences to get the application to save files correctly.\u00a0In\u00a0Preferences > Format >\u00a0<\/strong>choose\u00a0\u201cPlain Text\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Then under \u201cOpen and Save\u201d, check the box that says \u201cDisplay HTML files as HTML code instead of formatted text\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Then open a new document to place the code.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Step 2: Write Some HTML<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Write or copy the following HTML code into Notepad:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Step 3: Save the HTML Page<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Save the file on your computer. Select\u00a0File > Save as<\/strong>\u00a0in the Notepad menu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Name the file\u00a0\u201cindex.htm\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0and set the encoding to\u00a0UTF-8<\/strong>\u00a0(which is the preferred encoding for HTML files).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Step 4: View the HTML Page in Your Browser<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Open the saved HTML file in your favorite browser (double click on the file, or right-click \u2013 and choose \u201cOpen with\u201d).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
